CNN —Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham was sent off after he was denied an injury-time winner against Valencia on Saturday. That prompted Bellingham, along with other Real Madrid players, to remonstrate angrily with the referee, only for the midfielder to be shown a red card as the match ended 2-2. Real Madrid pulled a goal back through Vinícius Jr. right on the stroke of halftime and continued to push for an equalizer in the second half. He had celebrated his first goal by raising his fist into the air on what was his 250th appearance for Real Madrid. Real next plays RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, while Valencia returns to action in the league against Getafe next Saturday.

MANCHESTER, England, Nov 27 (Reuters) - The last time Manchester City hosted RB Leipzig is not a night Josko Gvardiol remembers with great fondness. "I'm happy to be his team mate," Gvardiol said when asked about the difference between playing against or with Haaland. "It wasn't just about Haaland, it was the first team on the pitch (last season), it was a hard game. As a centre back I was looking forward to facing Haaland but it didn't finish good. Haaland reached the 50-goal mark in the Premier League in record time at the weekend and Gvardiol said watching the Norwegian at work is remarkable.

CNN —Everyone wants a piece of Erling Haaland at the moment and that sentiment seems to extend to Manchester City’s opposition. At halftime of City’s 3-0 win against Young Boys in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday, Haaland was asked for his shirt by opposition captain Mohamed Ali Camara. When asked about the incident during his post-match press conference, Young Boys manager Raphael Wicky said he was “surprised.”“I didn’t see that. Haaland, 23, has now scored 39 goals in just 34 Champions League appearances and already sits 20th in the all-time scoring list. He is also on the verge of breaking the record for fewest appearances to reach 40 goals in the Champions League.

MANCHESTER, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Holders Manchester City will qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds with two games to spare with victory over Young Boys on Tuesday but they may have to do it without Erling Haaland. He could opt to spare Haaland though, especially with a trip to Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday. We'll speak with the doctors," Guardiola told reporters. "I will listen to him, if he says I am ready and I don't have pain I will consider to let him play. WOLFSBURG, Germany, Oct 31 (Reuters) - VfL Wolfsburg beat RB Leipzig 1-0 courtesy of Vaclav Cerny's first-half goal to eliminate the holders in the German Cup second round and put an end to their two year-reign in the competition. Leipzig, winners in 2022 and 2023 as well as finalists in 2021, were reduced to 10 men early in the second half after Yussuf Poulsen was sent off following a second booking. CNN —Manchester City suffered a first defeat of the season against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup as star striker Erling Haaland was left on the bench. It remained 1-0, however, condemning Guardiola to a third consecutive early exit in the Carabao Cup after defeats against Southampton last year and West Ham the year before. Oli Scarff/AFP/Getty ImagesAfter winning the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup last year, Wednesday’s loss means that Man City will be unable to go one better and win an unprecedented quadruple this season. “There are guys who have played a lot of minutes … I decided with this lineup, I always have done that in the Carabao Cup since day one when I arrived. In the Carabao Cup I always play the players who never regularly play.”Prior to the game, Guardiola had lamented not being able to travel by plane between Manchester and Newcastle.

Leipzig's Sesko uncomfortable with Haaland comparisons
  + stars: | 2023-09-26 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
BERLIN, Sept 26 (Reuters) - New RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko is not comfortable being compared with Manchester City star striker Erling Haaland and while they have some things in common he says he has his own style. Haaland is already a treble winner with City after his first season there, while Sesko, who joined Leipzig this season, still needs to prove his worth on the big stage. He will get the chance next week when he will face off with Haaland in their Champions League group match. "If we do the same performance it could be possible but if it is not full power (against Bayern) then it will be hard," Sesko said. The Bavarians are chasing a record-extending 12th consecutive league crown but Leipzig could given them a run for their money, Sesko said.

The Bavarians have won the last 11 consecutive league crowns but they needed a Borussia Dortmund slip-up on the final matchday last season to retain it. A 3-0 loss to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup at home on Saturday left Tuchel, who took over from Julian Nagelsmann late last season, fuming. Kane's German debut, with a low-key substitute appearance in the second half of their Super Cup loss, did little to dampen Bayern fans' enthusiasm and expectations. Their Super Cup win over Bayern gave them an early shot of confidence but they will have to repeat it again on Saturday when they face ambitious Leverkusen in their season opener. "We can improve many things but this obviously did give us a push," said Leipzig coach Marco Rose of the win against Bayern.
